It’s no secret - I love me a routine. I do the same thing (mostly) every evening. I eat pretty much the same things on a weekly basis. I’m boring. Keeping with a routine is just really helpful for me.
An evening or night time routine is super helpful in teaching your body and brain to prepare for bed. It’s also helpful to ensure you have a stress-free morning. If you’re like me and want to sleep in until the last possible second before having to get ready and out the door for work, then I night time routine will be your savior, my friend!
Here are a few things that make for an ultimate night time routine.
Drink a cup of tea //
I do this right after dinner. The warm tea helps my stomach digest. Especially now with the weather getting cooler (at least where I live), it feels so good to have a nice warm beverage.
Whiten with Smile Brilliant //
Truth time - I’m a little self-conscious of my teeth. I’ve had braces when I was younger so my teeth are pretty straight now (they’d be straighter if I wore my retainer - ooops) but I still worry that they are a little yellow.
I thought about getting my teeth professionally whitened but wasn’t psyched about how expensive it would be, then I was contacted by Smile Brilliant. I was over the moon to have the opportunity to whiten my teeth at home.
It’s super easy. They send you a whitening kit, you make your custom molds, they send back custom fitted trays, and the whitening begins!
You keep the whitening trays in for 45min-3hrs, then use the desensitizing gel for 15-20mis to ensure you don’t suffer sensitivity from the whitening gel.
This is super easy for me to do while I’m doing my nightly routine. I can go about the rest of my evening and having whiter teeth in the process.
I’m really impressed by the results I’ve seen already and feel much more confident smiling away the day.
Smile Brilliant has been gracious enough to give my readers a chance to win a whitening kit of their own.

Skin Care //
This is the step that really gets me into my “wind down” mood. There’s nothing like washing the day off your face to make you feel like it’s time to settle down.
For years I made the mistake of not fully washing off my makeup before bed. Luckily, I didn’t suffer any severe breakouts because of it but as I get older I can see the effects that not washing your face can have on your skin.
Plan Ahead //
One of the most stressful things about going to bed at night is knowing how much you have to do the next day.
There are things you can do the night before that will help smooth out your morning. For example, you can pick out the clothes you’re going to wear, prepare your breakfast and lunch (or at least decide what you’re going to have), pack your gym bag, make a list of your top priorities.
This way you’ll have less to stress about when the sun comes up.
Tidy //
A clean house = a clean mind.
There’s nothing I hate more than waking up late (as per usual), stumbling over a clothes hamper, and realizing all the coffee mugs are dirty in the sink.
I’m not talking about doing a deep clean here, I’m talking about clearing away the unnecessary clutter. So, putting away the mail sitting on the table, folding the blankets on the couch, and washing those few dishes.
Journal //
Having an opportunity to do a little brain dump before bed can help your mind settle and make it easier for you to fall asleep.
I write down anything that’s on my mind. Literally, anything. If anybody else read my journal they’d have no idea what it meant.
Read //
I always end my night time routine with a good book or magazine.
Reading can help lower your cortisol levels by reducing stress and help you ease into slumber. It can also help create a real serene environment, sitting in silence, with low light, letting your consciousness wander with the words. I can’t think of anything more peaceful.
